We bought this model washer June 2009 at Friedmans Applicance located in Pleasant Hill, CA. The drum bearing wore out and the repairman said it could not be replaced. Never had any problems... all cycles always worked. It has been a real work horse. We used this washer 15 years with not one problem until now, February 2024. No complaints.

Buyer Beware™"Even repair men can™™t fix this piece of junk! The SmartBoard is so stupid it scrambled all the cycles. The 1-hour Whites cycle now identifies as the Easy Care cycle on the dial. It is the ONLY cycle that still tumbles during the Wash.
NO cycle tumbles during the Rinse. It runs water; then sits there doing nothing until it drains. During the 1-hour Whites cycle; where I have to change the water temperature depending on the color of the load, it completely stops during the 17-minute Rinse. Then I have to set it to the 12-minute Drain & Spin cycle which now reads as the Hand Wash cycle on the dial. I™™ve had it for 3 years, and it™™s only worked properly the first year. How dare you charge $900 for this defective waste of metal! No one will even haul it away so I can buy a new washer.

I've had this machine for more than 15 years. The only issue I had was a washer in the hot water hose had failed. No fault of GE. Yes the machine will bounce and walk when working a heavy load of towels. But this had not been an issue for me. Overall, I would recommend this unit to friends and family!

This machine moved a great deal when spinning. If you remove the bottom panel and watch it, it bangs against the unit's electrical box underneath. The causes the concrete counter balance to break apart, which causes more swinging and banging. It works great until you have to wash towels or some very heavy load. It bangs violently and is very loud.

Purchased this washer 7 years ago. Had to have the drum shimmed by repairman instead of replacing. Poor design, washing towels makes terrible banging noise. Need to throw one towel in each load, can™™t wash theee at once? Looking now for new washer, definitely not GE!!!

Have bought up as many of these washing machines as I can since they no longer make them. The size is perfect for my condo. They don't make this size anymore The other new models are too tall and too wide of machines. Have to stand on step stool to read the dryer knobs that match the washing machines. Can't believe they make such impractical models! The GE 3.5 was perfect!

Worked well for 9 years and continues to work well under daily use. Front seal replaced under warranty and replaced again after 8 years heavy use. Bottom of front seal is vulnerable to tearing. Easy to replace and inexpensive part. Important to keep the front bottom pump filter clear of objects from clothing, buttons, etc. which can accumulate and cause lack of moisture removal at end of cycle.

Bought over 6 years ago, it worked well the first year and after that its been one thing after another. The problem with this washer is similar to those previously. They cycles are are sometimes stuck on repeat which double the amount of time it takes to wash a load. The machine seems to also have a mind of its own, the drain and spin cycle will begin to rinse and this can go on for hours, assuming because it's not suppose to be rinsing but only draining and spinning. After hours of this vicious rinse, drain and spin cycle the machine will finally end but the load is soaked. The machine use to leave clothes almost close to dry after the spin cycle making our drying time 15-30 minutes, depending on the load size and material, now it takes somewhere between 45 minutes and sometimes over an hour. Other issues that have occurred are the transmission had burned out and needed to be replaced, a few belts have torn, and the front door lip needed to be replaced because it was leaking and causing the paint to peel and metal to rust, and the control board needed to be replaced twice and I will find out this week if it needs to be done a third time. I faithfully pay for a service repair insurance through the store we purchased it through because it includes other home appliances so it did save us money on the repairs the washer needed however my husband I rationalize the cost as worth while because it includes our other home appliances but the problem child is always the washer and we're now thinking the money spent on keeping this washer covered through the repair insurance could of went to a new washer that could allow us to save hundreds of dollars a year on service insurance, electricity (because of how long the cycles take), water because of the constant extra rinsing that is not selected, and gas (on the extended amount of time it takes to dry to soaked clothes).

This washer is the worst. No matter how big or small the load is it sounds like the tub is full of bricks. I should buy a Fitbit for the washer because it walks more than I do. A 30 minute speed wash takes an hour on average. If the washer doesn™™t like the way the load feels it will start the spin cycle over and over. Seriously, I cannot tell you how many times I have checked the washer and it says10 minutes remaining only to come back 10 minutes later to see 16 minutes remaining. I spend more time waiting for the washer to finish a load than I spend waiting for my wife to be ready to go out.

This has been a lemon sunce we bought it! Water does not drain properly, clothes come out of washer so heavy and soaked we have to either put on another rinse and drain cycle or they will not dry in dryer. Every load of towels or a blanket or two and the washer is off balance. To say we hate it would be an understatement.

Knocks like it's broken but I've repeated had technicians inspect it, hooking their computers up for diagnostics, to find there is nothing wrong...it just sucks like that! TOTAL REGRET purchasing this machine 6+ years ago as it has been a pain in my side since the date of purchase. Also, don't buy from Sears or they will continue to "cover" under warranty which doesn't fix the issue, until your warranty period is up.

I got this set 8 years ago for Mother's Day and I loved them. 1 year in the drum fell. Spent $160 bucks getting it reattached. 3 months later it falls again. Another $160 but this time he used a heavy duty screw and bolted it down in several places. One year later my belt snaps, $285 dollars to replace and it cut the repair mans hands up due to the "teeth" that hold it in place. For the past two years the circuit board has been doing it's own thing. I have to hold down the power key to get it to turn on. Now it won't even work, it's shut down and just rumbles. I was so excited to get this set and it's been nothing but headaches. I left out the millions of trouble shooting I did myself. Glad it's no longer selling it's awful.

I purchased this in 2009 and the motor gave out in 2017. I thought it would last longer. Cost to repair is about $600, but tech pointed out even if I spent the money the other parts would give out.

I'll echo the bearings comments below, and add a circuit board issue that sometimes keeps resetting for hours, meaning a single wash set t breakfast was still going at lunch. GE has the option of not providing affordable assistance or recall, and I guess I get an expensive lesson to buy from other manufacturers.

Bought 6 yrs ago brand new. Loved it! Thought I'd get at least 10 years out of it but hoped to get maybe 15. My parents had GE washers/dryers when I grew up and they lasted forever. Same set my entire childhood. Not anymore. After 6 years the bearings went bad and the spider deteriorated. Repair cost nearly equals a new one. Don't have the money for either. Money is tight with 5 kids. To the laundry mat I'll go for the foreseeable future.

I am extremely disappointed in this GE washing machine. We only used it for a few years and it will not spin. I called a local repair person I've used in the past and he said that there are multiple issues and that it would cost $1400 to repair. I looked it up online to figure out a replacement and can't believe how poor the ratings are .... I wish that I would have seen this before I purchased it. Obviously, my issue is not an isolated issue. This makes me not want to purchase another GE appliance. Obviously, they know that there are quality issues with this washing machine.

My washer only worked about a year before it quit dispensing the laundry soap and fabric softener into the laundry. My clothes, of course are not coming out clean. I have bleached, used vinegar, the cleaning tablets, the cleaning powder and nothing has helped. It was too expensive to work for that amount of time.

I've had this washer for about 6 years and it worked good until now. I started a load and about 10 minutes later the washer started smoking. I did some research and found this is a common problem. Should have been a recall. Now I'm going to have to buy a new one since in order to fix it, the tub will need replaced along with the seal and gasket. a little disappointed on how long the unit lasted. Oh well, you live and you learn.
