Nice setup and practical for the first 2-3 years followed by repeated service calls. The electronics go rather quickly. Service techs for GE products don™€™t really do thorough inspections even after telling them the symptoms. Do a quick fix only to seek service tech within a couple months etc

I am officially done with GE! The washer model GFWR4805F1MC (which is no longer in production) just failed after 7yrs. The problem was with the balance ring, bearing and seal. GE made it so you can™€™t replace just the bearing and the cost to replace the back half of the tub is so high it™€™s better to just buy a new one. So that™€™s what I™€™ll do it just will NOT be GE! A message to the brass of GE ™€œconsumers are fed up with the high cost of appliances that don™€™t last™€

We actually purchased our set from someone who was moving and could not take the set with them. These are by far the best washer and dryer I have ever owned. The laundry is always clean, and the dryer has clothes completely dry in under 3o mins. I wish these models were still available because I would by them for my mother-in-law.

Avoid this washer! When we bough our new home, I bought this washer along with all the matching GE models: washer, dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher, stove. As another reviewer stated, this washer failed after about 7 years. In comparison, my $300 Maytag washer and dryer lasted 25 years and was left and sold along with our old house, still in working condition, and never repaired. This GE washer has a lot of nice features and options and I liked it while it worked. The basket is broken and the soap/bleach/softener dispensers don't drain. I was proud to buy GE and support American products but of all our GE appliances, all purchased at the same time, our refrigerator needed repair after only 1 1/2 years, and then the same repair 2 more times within 3 years. By year 6, we junked the fridge. The stovetop failed after 3 years and failed again 3 years later and is still in need or repair. The dishwasher failed after 6 years and we wash by hand ever since. Of the roughly $7000 new GE appliances we purchased, all have failed except for the dryer. We are disappointed in GE. That failure rate is unacceptable on such expensive appliances. I'm glad to see this is no longer in production.

Failure is not an option!

After growing up with the GE brand for over 20 years I'm struggling to understand why such a quality product would fail after 7 years. After filing a claim with our homeowner's warranty company ,our claim was denied because their Repair company's claim that the rear bearing failed due to overloading which was never the case. If this is a common problem then why does GE not honor their workmanship and customer's investment and repair the appliance? It costs less to replace the washer than it is to repair it.

We have had nothing but trouble with this machine and I want a rebate fro something new that works well. We had a GE technichian out 3 times before they admitted problem and supposedly fixed. Now we have just suffered through the loud noise and shaking that continues and it repeating the spin cycle over and over. Please make this right its been too long!

Some "bright" GE engineer thought it would be a good idea to replace the water-contained balance ring with a ball bearing one. Except he/she probably didn't figure on the balls coming loose and flying all over the inside of the machine literally destroying everything in their path. Now we're looking at over $1,000 to repair it. I don't think so. We'll deposit this washer where it belongs....appliance grave yard. If I could put a zero star I would.

Ring Balance leaked to all clothes while washing

We didn't figure out when the first ring balance fluid leaked to all the clothes. I was thinking about maybe we left something inside to machine something dirty but not it was ring balance. After all the ring balls get rusted, causes a crack in the tub and damage to the drum. I love the versatility of this washer. You can choose water temp, spin cycles and decide how long you want the items washed for. Unfortunately, we had TERRIBLE LUCK with this machine. It is now over 6 years old and had several large "gut" parts replaced to no prevail. The motor, board, and control board have all been replaced and it still spins off balance, out of control and ends up adding time to the cycle making cycles several hours long!

Washer Basket Assembly Prone to Premature Failure

The spider arm on the basket assembly is made of low quality cast metal and corrodes and breaks easily. The spider arm cannot be replaced separately. The cost to replace the basket assembly with labor and the related parts was quoted at $1500 (by a GE tech). My washer is 5 years old and has not been abused. The original cost of the washer was over 1K.

It was noisy and spins were shaking so violently we were forced to pay appliance company to come out only to hear the bearings are gone! We bought all GE appliances for our new home we built in 2013. This washing machine has been repaired already once with replacing the top tub piece because one of the concrete balancers completely broke off and was down in the machine. Now it has happened again. Not to mention before this happened the machine would stop and not run the rinse and spin cycle. This was top of the line with features and very expensive. Now we have to go out and buy a new one because we are not throwing money back into this one. Very disappointed in this washing machine.

We bought this washing machine brand new 4 years ago, it wasn™€™t a cheap appliance. It started running excessively long so had someone come look at it. We were told the bearings were bad and that he™€™s seen this before. Quoted us $870 to fix it!! We purchased a GE refrigerator at the same time and had to have it fixed last year because the temperature snide was not staying cold. These appliances weren™€™t cheap and should last several years! Mold everywhere on the front ring. Also mold in the drawer where the detergent goes. Of course GE says it was my fault, even though there are other reviewers on this SAME product that have mold in the exact same places. Paid thousands of dollars for a ™€œtop of the line product™€ that I cannot use because of ridiculous amounts of mold. Also I will mention that I leave the door open after every use because I heard front loaders were prone to foul odors. Also, GE has been zero help in resolving the issue. I was told to buy a new one at a discounted price. No thank you.

I bought this washer with matching dryer set 5 1/2 years ago new and was excited to have top of the line product.... I purchased a 3 yr warranty and at 6 months past warranty the main brain or display went out. Took a month to have fixed due to unavailable parts and 200 parts 150 labor. Plus having no washer for a month. Display would read load sense... and would not run . That was fixed and all was good for 2 years now it is dead.. wife calls me and says water is leaking and sounded like a shotgun went off. I inspected it and there was 5 dents in outside casing and sounded like marbles in the drum when I spun by hand. After dismantling the washer I found the outer plastic drum was cracked and blown out. Bearings had went out and shot through the drum and dented the metal. Here I thought I left fishin weights in my pocket. Nope just a crappie overpriced ge product. Anyways I™€™m goin back to my cheapo top loader for 300 bucks that lasts forever. This was 1200 new and 400 into it . Disappointed to say the least

Broke after 2 years

I™€™ve never been so unimpressed with an appliance before. Both the washer and dryer went out after 2.5 years. We paid $150 to have them looked at and the ™€œfix™€ was more than buying new. I just don™€™t get it. Nothing was done to break them. They just started sounding really bad so I called the service people and had them come look. They took them apart and had no solutions but replacing very expensive parts plus labor.

Bad washer!!!!

Bought this washer just 4 years ago and it never really worked as expected. While in warranty GE technician replaced one of the shocks because a leak damaged it. I did not even ask why there was a leak in the first place! My big mistake as the leak was never fixed and the shocks went out again causing banging while spinning. When out of warranty i called the service in they discovered the entire bottom is rusted. And after replacing the shocks now the washer control board seems to have issues. More service calls..... Companion dryer did not last either.

It started having this terrible noise. Tech that came out to look at it says it will cost over $350 to fix it and it might break again. It is the bearings and won't drain properly either. Tech says it will be cheaper to buy a new washer then to fix this one more then once. Ridiculous a washer should last longer then less then 3 years with what we pay for them.

The GE technician diagnosed as damaged bearings and said it was not worth fixing because it would cost more than buying a new one! I read about my experience over and over, I've owned this unit for 5 years for a vacation home. Washer sounds like a freight train during the spin cycle. The repair depart told me that it is not worth fixing due to bearing failure and possible drum damage. Very Sad, I have a housefull of GE Cafe product-same expereince. All the peices are beginning to fail at this age. no more GE for me.

Bought this washer/dryer set 4 years ago to replace our old top loaders at my wive's request. Three years go by and the washer began making a really loud noise during spin cycle. It turned out to be faulty bearings. It is unbelievable the short amount of time these washers last. After reading a few of the reviews in here I am convinced that these are cheaply made, but they charge the customer top dollars. Not worth the money nor the hassle. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!! My washer is 4 years old. It was never quite in great balance. Every time I have done a wash it got worse and worse. Today when cleaning 5 pool towels (it was not even close to being full) I heard a loud noise and my whole house shook. I ran to the laundry room and found this (see pics). A super heavy boulder on the floor with huge bolts in it, that blew the door open, and the insides came crashing inside itself...I don't even know if I am explaining it accurately so I had to take pictures. Thank god no one was in the laundry room and I had just left the room to put away clothes I had just folded. There is no way I would have left that room without a broken leg from that boulder.

No longer finishes loads

The washer no longer completes cycles, which appears to be a known problem. In order to wash clothes I have to do a work around (wait, unplug, put in spin mode, cross fingers to see if runs). Checked everything told need to have a service call. Whats worse - the matching dryer just died - no longer will power up. Unacceptable quality for $2,000 plus units. Will NEVER buy another GE product again - it's too expensive. And guess what - just had to replace my GE microwave that broke and my GE Profile dishwasher all of a sudden started leaking. All of the appliances are only 4 years old!

Mold growth, residue on outside of drum

This is our second front loader from GE. It has all the options. Unfortunately, even with following best practices, mold has grown on the seal and there™€™s an accumulation of orange residue on the outside of the drum that cannot be cleaned.

We bought our washing machine in June 2014. My wife has always complained about the moldy smell. We tried to always leave the door open when not in use. It didn™€™t help. And what ever you do, don™€™t forget and leave a load of cloths in there for a day. But, that™€™s not why I™€™m writing my first review, I™€™ve ever written. It™€™s February 2018, and it just locked up. It™€™s humming like it™€™s trying to spin. I knew something had to be jamming the tub. I took the machine apart to unjam the tub. I finally was able to get the tub loose. I don™€™t know what was jamming the tub, but before I could go further to remove what ever it was, I noticed my outer tub was cracked. This is the outer part of the tub that doesn™€™t spin. As I looked closer, I noticed the tub had multiple cracks, that went all the way through. It even had a split in the tub. I™€™m lucky the machine got jammed. Otherwise, it was only a very short matter of time before the tub completely came apart and completely flooded our house. I thought buying a GE, meant I was buying a better quality product.

I bought this washing machine in January 2014. It wasn't cheap. I told the salesman I did a lot of laundry. He suggested this one. The summer of 2016 I started noticing it was getting louder. Finally in April 2017 I called my service protection plan and when the repairman came out he discovered the bearings had gone out. On a 3yr old Washing Machine that was NOT CHEAP! Thank God that I had bought the longest product protection plan available or I'd be in a pickle. They ended up replacing the front and rear outertub and several other parts. Now, before it went out I did like this very much, but this kind of problem is ridiculous. The repairman said it was just a fluke, but that he does see this kind of problem all the time. It's very true that "they just don't make them like they used to." I think if someone spends this much money on a washer, it should last more than three years. BTW, I was without my washer for 2 months while it was being repaired. Not Happy.

Liked the built-in pedestal feature. It makes a lot of noise going through the different cycles, etc. Thankfully it is used in the garage.

bought this machine less then two years ago, aside from not smelling great, have spent a few hundred dollars repairing rubber inside tub. now its costing me another few hundred to repair ball breakers...

I have owned several different types of washers in my life, this new GE washes clothes especially whites better than any other machine I have ever owned. I use soft water and Tide soap, my whites look like new.
